How to improve focus and concentration

Sometimes it's really hard to focus and concentrate on things you want to do. It is only hard when you have multi options or you say yes to multi options. It does not happen altogether where you want to focus. Elimination is the prerequisite for focus. What does it mean? It means when focus occurs you literally eliminate all other options to focus on a single thing.

Concentration refers to the mental effort you direct toward whatever you are working on or learning at the moment. It sometimes confuses with attention span, but attention span refers to the length of time you can concentrate on something.

How to improve FOCUS

Focus is a lot like mental muscle, the more you work on building it up the more it gets stronger. Well, staying in tasks could be difficult, but if you surround yourself with constant distractions it could be very challenging to focus. What does it mean by constant distractions? It is very simple to figure it out if you look at your daily activities. A distraction occurs when you try to put your effort in multi tasking. A multi tasking mentality always distract your focus no matter how hard your try. Even during quiet moments, distractions are literally in your fingerprints as you find yourself on social media, which means, you are literally not in quiet moments, you are living in the noisy moment that is occurring in your mind.

To improve focus the below things can be done;

  • Eliminate Distractions: This is very important and as I have mentioned early in this article you must eliminate distractions to focus better. Not an easy task though I know, however, only by minimizing your tasks you can improve your concentration. To do this you must find what are the distractions that are not helping you to focus. In order to learn how to improve focus, use a designated period of time to scroll through social media or make personal phone calls, however, timing here is essential. Minimizing these sources of distractions isn't always as easy as it sounds, while it might be as simple as turning off the TV, radio. You might find difficulties to deal with and interrupting co-worker, spouse, child, or roommate.

  • Focus on the process: Most of us do this mistake in life and focus on the event more than the process. By focussing on the process you can achieve targeted goals easily. Let's see you want to lose your weight around 10 pounds in next 2 months. If you see this as event you will end up gaining more than losing your weight. You must focus on the process that may help you lose your weight. You must need to work out following the weight loss process not the 2 months event. Event is the result of whole process that helps to accomplish within given time.

  • Take a short break: Either it's your long term goal or short term goal it is not that easy to focus for a long time. If you do that, you know it never happens and after a short while it breaks down and become more and more difficult to devote your mental resources to the task. To get your focus back you must need a short break to recharge your power/energy and get back with a full strength again. To do this, you must shift your mind to something unrelated to your task even for a short moment and it will help you to get back strongly.

  • Set your mood and environment right: It must required to focus on things properly. Your environment follows the mood how it will react to certain things. To focus on the thing you must set your mood and environment right. If you are trying to write a book, you must focus on the topic and other supportive substances. To do that, you must switch of all communication applications nearby your hand. Make it hard yourself to access such applications by physically putting them in places that are inconvenient to reach. Maximize your exposure to visual messages that direct you to stay focused to the task at hand.

How to improve CONCENTRATION

Maintaining attention allows us to construct our internal world in such a way that the thoughts, motivations, and emotions that are the most relevant to our goal will have priority in our brains. It's easy to become frustrated when you are trying to concentrate but just can't. This can lead to stress and limitation, which tends to make focusing on what you need to do even more of distant dream.

To improve concentration the below things can be done;

  • Improve Sleep: Sleeping is most important in human life. Being too tired can even slow down your reflexes and affect your ability to drive or do other daily tasks. Many experts recommend that sleeping around 7 to 8 hours can keep your body stamina active for next 12 to 14 hours. To improve sleeping you must minimize less important daily activities like watching TV program, paying too much video games, staying out late with friends, and so on. Prioritize your work or activities to sleep sufficiently and I would recommend to sleep at least 8 hours a day.

  • Make some brain exercise: It helps you to improve your concentration ability superbly. What can you do to exercise your brain? I would suggest to play some brain storming games or puzzle, board games which will improve your concentration ability significantly. You may try playing Sudoku, crossword puzzles, chess, or scramble games. Among them I would suggest to play a chess game which not only sharps your brain but doubles your concentration level for sure.

  • Do only what you can do: It may sound crazy while you want to improve your concentration level to achieve your goals why should you do only what you can. But hey, it means doing what you can is way better than doing nothing at all. And also do not overload your tasks and simplify tasks in doable levels by minimizing less important tasks.

  • Work on full screen mode: To increase your concentration level focus on single task. Do not allow yourself to multi tasking or otherwise you will lose your concentration very quickly whenever you are jumping to other screen or allowing yourself to shift your thought to other tasks. Do one thing at a time not many. Many sounds definitely good but it brings less results than a single task brings 100% result of it.

Keep Practicing

Building your mental focus is not something that will happen overnight. Even professional athletes require plenty of time and practice in order to strengthen their concentration skills. Keep practicing until it happens daily in your life and you feel not fulfilled without doing these. By building mental focus you will find that you are able to accomplish more and concentrate on more things solely and truly to bring success in your life.
